My practice works from a client- centred approach where I consult primarily with children between the ages of 3 to 16 years whom are part of the neurodiverse community, those presenting with behavioural and emotional regulation difficulties and other neurodevelopmental challenges. I see my client’s world systemically, and believe their mental health is congruent with the environments they interact with, such as family, friends, school and other influences. Underlying this, is my theoretical orientation, a brain-based framework.

A brain-based framework takes into account my client’s cognitive development when recommending support and interventions. This includes various developmental stages including symbolic thinking, concrete and abstract thinking and metacognition, or self-awareness. Understanding the brains stage of development creates realistic expectations regarding the client’s progress and responsiveness to support and interventions given.
